What is the significance of Pi Day, March 14? The number pi, according to NASA, also written π or 3.14, is a science and mathematical concept that revolves around the fact that, regardless of the size of a circle, the ratio of a circle’s circumference (the distance around it) to its diameter (the distance across it) always equals pi.
Here in Hernando County, Pi Day has taken on a whole new, exceptional meaning–as around these parts, March 14 is a day for giving. Smokin’ Oak Wood Fired Pizza and Taproom, 13180 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, announces its second annual Pi Day fund-raising celebration.

Last year’s Pi Day celebration at Smokin’ Oak raised $1,300 for K9 Partners for Patriots. This nonprofit organization helps veterans and animals in need—ensuring that they, in turn, will get a more significant piece of the ‘Pi.’ K9 Partners for Patriots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to ending veteran suicide with the help of rescue dogs. Based at 15322 Aviation Loop Dr., Brooksville, K9 Partners for Patriots enlists trained canines to prevent veteran suicide.
