Elizabeth Narverud, chairperson of the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), has announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Narverud made the announcement during the panel’s regular meeting on April 9. “I have faced many challenges before and I’m not afraid of this one,” she said. “It has been my greatest honor to serve as your Chair on the Hernando County Commission, and I won’t let something like breast cancer stop me from being a voice for you.”
Narverud said that her cancer was discovered during a routine screening. Her treatment will take place at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
Vice Chair Brian Hawkins will take over BOCC duties as necessary in her absence.
