Traveling Art Parties, a paint parties business owned by Hernando artist Autum Proctor will host a Nickels for Nipples (N4N) fundraiser on Sunday, April 21 from 4-7 p.m. at USCG Aux Hernando Beach, 4340 Calenta St., Hernando Beach. At this event, participants will be encouraged to paint their creative interpretation of this exquisite image in any color they choose while enjoying charcuterie, raffles, and giveaways, including an art giveaway and snacks. BYOB.
“Autum is awesome,” said Sue Murphy, president of Nickels for Nipples. “1/2 of the ticketed price will be returned to N4N. We will have a charcuterie, which is a BYOB. As well as raffles and giveaways. All proceeds go back to families here in our community to help them with their financial needs while going through this terrible disease. N4N is always looking for fun and creative ways to get involved with our community. We love what we do. Our mission is to help families fight breast cancer through education, fundraising and hope.”
Nickels for Nipples was founded five years ago when a group of Hernando County friends and pool players united to support one of their own, Sue Murphy, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. This 501c3 nonprofit organization hosts numerous fund-raisers regularly throughout the year, raising thousands of dollars to help support others in their fight against this dreaded disease. This cause is deeply personal for Proctor, an active member of the Hernando County Fine Arts Council, collegiate art instructor, muralist, sculptor and oil painter whose work can be seen in various area galleries, competitions, and special events. She can be seen frequently at the Front Porch Art Walk event and also painted a mermaid statue on the Mermaid Tail Trail.
“To be a part of this event means so much, as I have an incredible loved one going through treatments now,” she revealed. “If we are able to help in any way possible, Traveling Art Parties will do so; this is an incredible foundation, and what they do for these women is incredible. We need more people like Sue who really go the extra mile to help.”
Proctor will guide fundraiser participants in creating her original image, which depicts a richly patterned butterfly flying next to a ribbon against a colorful backdrop. The pink ribbon is a widely recognized symbol associated with the worldwide campaign to end breast cancer. This vivid illustration will be painted on a 16 by 20 canvas with lovely acrylic paint.
The admission charge for the Traveling Art Parties Nickels for Nipples fund-raiser is $50 per person. All supplies needed for the painting class are included in the price of admission. For more information and to register, visit https://tinyurl.com/59vfa2fm.
Sue Murphy encourages everyone who wishes to join the fight against breast cancer to ‘participate’ in this worthwhile, arts-oriented fund-raising event. “Together, we do amazing things,” she said.
