Is there a better way to celebrate spring than through two free concert performances—a gift to the community courtesy of a Hernando music institution?
“The Hernando Symphony and our Hernando Symphony Brass will be performing this weekend at St. Frances Cabrini as part of their festival,” said Michele DiLuzio, the Hernando Symphony Orchestra conductor.
The Hernando Symphony Orchestra announces that a special free concert has been added to their seasonal concert schedule; a show set to happen at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at the main church at St. Frances Cabrini, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. In addition, The Hernando Symphony Brass—an offshoot of the Hernando Symphony Orchestra that performs frequently at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens—will be outside under the big tent at St. Frances Cabrini on Friday, May 3rd, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 4th, at 2:00 p.m.
“The orchestra will cap off the weekend events with a free concert inside the church on Sunday, May 5th, at 6:00 p.m.,” said DiLuzio.
The Hernando Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1982 with 13 musicians, celebrated its 41st season in 2023-2024. The mission of the HSO is to promote community interest in high-standard music, provide musicians of all ages with an opportunity to perform in a symphony orchestra and provide scholarship funds to promote string education in Hernando County. Offering musical programs aimed at audiences of all ages, this orchestra consists of dedicated musicians who volunteer their time and talents to make the Hernando Symphony a premier pop orchestra. The orchestra performs regular season concerts in the months of December, February, and April, in addition to special concerts that occur throughout the year. Ticket sales and contributions help support mission activities.
This final performance in the orchestra’s 41st season promises to offer a rich and rhythmic sampling of the orchestra’s finest musical offerings. “The orchestra is thrilled to be able to partner with the church for this annual event,” said DiLuzio. “Since we just completed our final concert of the formal concerts for the 23-24 season last weekend, we will be performing music from our February and April concert series.”
This show, says DiLuzio, will provide listeners with the rare opportunity to enjoy a complimentary HSO performance, one brimming with the ebullient popular musical offerings for which HSO is known. “If you were not able to attend either of those formal concerts,” she said, “now is your chance to hear some of the music that was performed at those concerts.”
The selections performed at the concert will represent a full range of fun and rhythmic compositions.
The entertainment will include music from “Sing,” “Happy,” Jimmy Buffett, Banana Boat, the Eagles, Maleguena, Disney, Yellow Bird, the Beach Boys and more,” said DiLuzio. “We will have a brief intermission with a raffle drawing at the Sunday concert.”
DiLuzio invites area musicians to come and be a part of the Hernando Symphony Orchestra.
“We have several openings in the orchestra,” she said. “If you or someone you know is interested in joining our talented little group of volunteer musicians, please contact me at
[email protected].”
