The area’s youth will be encouraged to sing, dance and act during the summer at the 15th Annual Live Oak Theatre Summer Camps.
Live Oak Theatre Company (LOT) is a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) repertory company of local artists located at the Carol and Frank Morsani Center for the Arts, 21030 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34601. The Live Oak Theatre Company exists to enrich families, individuals, and the community as a whole by providing positive artistic experiences in the performing arts, including excellent, affordable, and edifying family-friendly entertainment, performances, and educational opportunities for theater patrons and participants of all ages. For over a decade, Live Oak has been fostering the talents of eager young thespians through its creative and diverse summer camp program.
“We began our company with this camp,” said Vince Vanni, Live Oak spokesman and theatrical instructor. “It was so successful; we have repeated it for the last 14 years! This is the 15th annual camp.”
Vanni sees the music theatre camp as a vital entry point for kids interested in discovering their thespian talents—creative skills that could be honed further at The Live Oak Conservatory and the Live Oak youth theatre program.
The Live Oak 15th annual summer theater camp program will run June 10–14, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., for boys and girls ages seven through 18. The tuition is $150. “The musical theatre camp serves as a great introduction to Live Oak Theatre,” said Vince Vanni, Live Oak spokesman and instructor. “Throughout the week, the campers are introduced to the wide variety of skills taught at the Live Oak Conservatory.”
Vanni sees the musical theatre camp as the crown jewel of the Live Oak Theatre program.
“Most important… is the musical theatre camp,” he said, “especially for those who want to sample all the performing arts skills in one week. Veteran performers are in charge of teaching this camp. Some of us have taught it since the beginning.”
Dance Camp will run June 17–21, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. This is a beginner dance camp for eight to 16-year-olds. The tuition is $75.
Improv Camp will occur on June 17–21, from 2:30–5:30 p.m., for ages eight and up. This is an acting camp focused on the skill of improvising. The tuition is $75. “We also include IMPROV skills during the camp,” said Vanni. “Campers are so excited that they sign up for an additional week of improv.”
Kids with a love for dance will find much to like about the camp program. “We also hold a week-long half-day camp in dance,” said Vanni.
According to Vanni, campers will learn many skills from the Live Oak Theatre camp program. “These skills include vocal technique and song interpretation, costume & set design, movement to music, auditioning skills, acting skills such as characterization, improv technique,” he said, “and much more.”
Camp students should bring lunch/dinner with them, water, and a healthy snack. They may also want to bring a pencil, a notebook, paper and a folder for notetaking purposes.
