Traffic Stop Leads to two Drug Arrests in Brooksville

On May 21, 2024, detectives from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics unit conducted proactive surveillance in the area of Cortez Boulevard and East Jefferson Street in Brooksville. During this operation, they performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to maintain a single lane.

Upon approaching the vehicle, detectives detected a strong odor of marijuana. Tameika Shaw, the passenger, immediately informed the detectives about the presence of drugs in the vehicle and handed over a backpack containing marijuana.

After being read their Miranda rights, both Shaw and the driver, Shakendra Brown, cooperated with the investigation. Shaw admitted that all the drugs in the vehicle belonged to her and confessed to having completed a drug sale shortly before the traffic stop in the parking lot of a Brooksville motel. Additionally, Shaw revealed she had more drugs on her person.

The search of the vehicle and Shaw’s person yielded the following:

47.7 grams of Powder Cocaine
77.2 grams of Rock Cocaine
44.9 grams of Methamphetamine
3.2 grams of Oxycodone
1.7 grams of Suboxone strips
20.9 grams of THC
4 digital scales with Cocaine and Methamphetamine residue
Numerous plastic baggies and cut straws with residue

During questioning, Brown admitted she was driving with a suspended license. Detectives discovered rock cocaine in the driver’s side door handle and concealed on Brown’s person.

Arrests:

Tameika Shaw (DOB: 11-30-1995):
Trafficking in Methamphetamine
Trafficking in Cocaine (two counts)
Possession of a Controlled Substance (two counts)
Possession of Marijuana – More than 20 grams
Possession of Drug Equipment

Shaw was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center with a bond set at $163,000.

Shakendra Brown (DOB: 09-03-1995):
Possession of Cocaine
Driving while License is Suspended or Revoked
Possession of Drug Equipment

Brown was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center with a bond set at $4,000.

Both individuals were arrested at the scene and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center.
