Embark on a thrilling summer reading adventure, not just for kids but for adults too! The Passport to Reading program, running from June 1st to July 31st at the East Hernando Branch Library–6457 Windmere Rd, Brooksville–is an exciting extension of the Adventure Begins at Your Library summer reading experience at the Hernando County Public Library System. Beyond the joy of reading, passport holders stand a chance to win some fantastic prizes! This program is proudly sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County, Florida, Inc.
“East Hernando Branch Library is hosting an adult summer reading program this summer. Adventure Begins at Your Library by picking up a “Passport to Reading” and logging your summertime library adventures!” enthused Valerie Martin, branch supervisor–East Hernando.
Passport to Reading is a unique and enjoyable program based on the love of good books. It is centered around a series of exciting challenges based on these books, along with the completion of adult library programs. Each participant will receive a ‘Passport to Reading’ booklet, which they can use to log their reading adventures and library activities. Here’s how it works.
“Adults will complete challenges that include reading books of their choice, attending adult library programs at the East Hernando Branch, and using library services. To log these activities in their passport, participants can simply ask the staff at the front desk for assistance. For every item logged in their passport, they will receive one passport stamp and one entry into the prize drawing of their choice.”
Indeed, when it comes to Passport to Reading, reading most definitely has its rewards! “Prize package themes include beach, romance, movie, special author, and Kindle,” said Martin. “The prize drawings will take place on August 1st.”
The sublime activity of summer reading, explains Martin, can be enjoyed by people of all ages. “Summer reading programs are not just for children!” she said. “Summer reading programs provide a special opportunity to learn about all the library has to offer and to attend special programs.”
Any time of year and regardless of the reader’s age, Martin points out, reading enhances the mind, heart and soul.
Reading is a treasure trove of benefits that apply to all ages! While entertainment is a primary objective, reading also fosters lifelong learning, stimulates the brain, keeps us informed, and broadens our perspectives and understanding of the world. It builds vocabulary, strengthens writing skills, improves memory and sparks imagination and creativity. So, let’s dive into the world of books and reap these rewards!
Furthermore, passport holders can access and earn rewards for completing adult-geared library activities at the East Hernando Branch. Indeed, while checking out books at the library, patrons can also ‘check out’ several fun and beneficial activities this summer.
“Library programs scheduled for June and July at the East Hernando Branch include but are not limited to book discussions, craft classes, puzzle club, family game night, financial literacy classes, computer classes, sewing classes, and chair yoga,” said Martin.
