On Tuesday morning, July 30, a shooting occurred at El Sol de Mexico Bar and Grill in Ridge Manor, killing one and wounding another.
Deputies arrived on the scene at 31079 Cortez Blvd. around 10:30 a.m., where two victims were confirmed in the shooting. A woman was killed and a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to initial reports, the suspects fled in a small black or dark-colored vehicle with Georgia tags, but it was unknown which direction they were heading. A black female with blond hair was thought to be driving the vehicle, and a black male passenger was also thought to be in it.
A short time later, Florida Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching that description and a person of interest was placed into custody as a result of that traffic stop.
As a result of interviews with the subject, investigators determined that the person in custody is from out of the area and was involved in the shooting. They believe the subject to be the only individual involved. Sheriff Nienhuis stated during a press conference, “Right now, it does appear, very preliminarily, that it may have been a robbery that turned violent, but again, we’re not assuming anything.”
The Sheriff’s Office later officially identified the suspect as Donald Donell Jamison, age 21. He was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Robbery. Additional charges may be pending.
Detectives are working on developing a timeline leading up to the shooting.
