BMS invites area families to travel through time in the unforgettable DeLorean car while we reminisce about the ‘good ole days!’
“Back to the Future” is the top 30-rated movie on the Internet Movie Database and won an Oscar for Best Sound Effects Editing. The motion picture also won the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film. It tells the story of Marty McFly, an eighties-era teenager who accidentally teleported back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered DeLorean “time machine” invented by a mad scientist. His mission? He must make sure that his teenage parents-to-be meet and fall in love – so that he can get back to the future.
“This is my favorite movie,” said Dawn Triconi, executive director of Brooksville Main Street. It’s a feel-good movie—exactly what we need to see right now.”
Triconi also sees “Back to the Future” as the perfect ‘back-to-school’ flick! “This is the perfect family date night movie, It’s a great last hurrah before the kids go back to school,” she said.
The movie starts at dusk, but guests are encouraged to arrive early to participate in the pre-movie games and activities. They are welcome to come dressed in their favorite 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s costumes.
“The movie was set in the ’50s and was released in the ’80s,” Triconi said. “It’s hip to be square!”
Back by popular demand, DJ Shalamar will appear in the park before the show, pre-movie, spinning music and hosting games for everyone’s enjoyment.
“He serves on our board and shows incredible energy,” said Triconi.
As an added bonus, DJ Shalamar has partnered with BMS to host a free backpack and school supply giveaway, consisting of limited quantities, first come, first serve. BMS thanks the City of Brooksville, Affordable Building Products of Florida LLC, Viva La Skin and Lashes and Laura’s Southern Charm Salon for sponsoring this year’s backpack drive. Also, The Local Barber Shop will be offering free haircuts on site for boys and Bene’s Career Academy will be offering free haircut coupons for girls. “Our community businesses are coming through to offer free Back to School goodies for the kids,” said Triconi.
Brooksville Fire Department also will be back again with the Tower Truck to cool off guests.
Guests will be welcome to stroll throughout downtown, enjoying restaurants, merchants, and retail stores. They can partake in food trucks, ice cream vendors, and arts and crafts merchants on site. For more information, visit www.welovebvl.org or visit their Facebook page
