According to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, multiple people in a vehicle were shot at by an individual at Mariner Cay apartments around 7:40 pm on Sunday evening, Aug. 18.
After the shooting occurred, the driver left the area at a high rate of speed and ended up at the Mariner Commons Publix Shopping Center in order to seek help.
Publix was evacuated due to the unknown circumstances at the time.
Five people were in the vehicle, three of which were shot. They were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
A person of interest has been identified and that person is in custody. Two other people who were with the person of interest were also taken into custody.
During the press conference last night, Sheriff Nienhuis said one victim was still unaccounted for, but they believe that person was uninjured.
