A grand jury has indicted 21-year-old Donald Donell Jamison for the murder of 53-year-old Claudia Barbosa at El Sol Mexican Bar and Grill in Ridge Manor on the morning of July 30, 2024.

Jamison was indicted on Aug. 14 for one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Firearm, one count of Attempted Felony Murder, two counts of Robbery with a Firearm, and one count of Escape from a Law Enforcement Officer.

According to the arrest affidavit, video surveillance revealed that a black male subject wearing distinctive orange-style slippers entered the restaurant around 9:00 a.m. Eventually, while in the restaurant, the subject walked up to the female employee, Claudia Barbosa, who was stocking shelves with merchandise. The subject then removed a black pistol from his pocket and shot Barbosa in close proximity.

The second employee, Nicolas Bello, who is Barbosa’s son, was nearby and began to fight with the assailant. The struggle continued for a few seconds until the subject shot Bello. The shooter then rummaged through the pockets of Barbosa and removed a red satchel from Bello’s body. He then fled the scene.

At around 10:00 a.m., 911 calls were received stating that a black male was actively shooting inside the restaurant. Once on scene, deputies learned that the shooter fled in a black SUV with Georgia plates. They found Barbosa deceased and Bello was shot but still alive.

Around 10:50 a.m. in Pasco County, Florida Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop and detained a man fitting the description of the assailant who was driving a 2023 Nissan Rouge with a Georgia tag.

He was also wearing orange-style slippers. During a search of his vehicle prompted by a K9 narcotics alert, the items taken from the victims were found inside the vehicle, along with a shirt that matched what the shooter was wearing in the restaurant. Jamison admitted to recently having illegal narcotics in the vehicle. A loaded Glock 43 with only three rounds of 9 mm ammunition inside the magazine was also found in the search. Jamison was the only occupant of the vehicle.

FHP took Jamison to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, where interviews were conducted. During this process, Jamison attempted to escape, running out of the interview room, but deputies quickly tackled him.

Attorney James Martin Brown is representing Donald Jamison.
