Faith Baptist Church Inaugurates a New Phase

On Sunday, Aug. 25, the congregation of Faith Baptist Church in Spring Hill participated in a groundbreaking ceremony. Almost all of the 150 church members, from the youngest to the most senior, had an opportunity to scoop up a shovelful of dirt at the site of the future Family Life Pavilion.

They’re getting ready to start phase one of the construction of the 11,000-square-foot metal building. It will be twenty-four feet tall and will be open on all four sides. However, there will eventually be movable sides similar to roll-down blinds that can be lowered to keep out rain. Ceiling fans will provide cooling and portable heaters will provide heating. The building will be used for church functions, community outreach events, and other activities.

It will also serve as a gym with retractable basketball hoops and volleyball nets. This will give the boys’ and girls’ teams at Faith Christian Academy, the church-affiliated school, a place to practice. They will also be able to hold games when they compete against other schools.

Faith Christian Academy serves children in Pre-K to 12th grade. For more information about the school, go to the church’s website: www.faithbaptistspringhill.com or call 352-686-9350.

Pastor Barry Gordon has been in the ministry for thirty years and came to Faith Baptist in 2012. His wife, Debbie, assists with church activities and also serves as Principal of Faith Christian Academy. The Assistant Pastor is Tim Gordon with twenty years’ service in the ministry. His wife, Caroline, is the school’s Assistant Principal.

Sunday’s event was just the beginning of this project. Construction will begin after Labor Day and should be completed in three months. Once phase one is debt-free, the church will begin fundraising for phase two. This will entail pouring additional concrete to expand the footprint of the building.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Pastor Gordon summed up the church’s philosophy as they embark on this journey, “Every time you put a shovel in the dirt, the church grows.”

Faith Baptist Church is located at 175 Springtime Street. Sunday morning Worship is at 10:30 a.m. Sunday evening Services are at 6:00 p.m. Those who can’t attend in person can livestream the morning worship. Some of their community ministries include Shut-in Ministries and a Faith program. To learn more, call number 352-686-6050 or email: [email protected].
