Fatal Crashes Over the Weekend

E-Bike Fatality
On Sept. 21 at 8:35 pm, a 42-year-old man on an electric bike was traveling south on the Nature Coast Trail with a female passenger. The rider failed to stop at a stop sign at Highfield Rd. and was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer driven by a 21-year-old man from Inverness. The man on the electric bike was transported to the hospital where he later died. The female passenger suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The driver of the Trailblazer was uninjured.

Wrong Way Driver on Suncoast Parkway Kills Two
A 45-year old Homosassa man was driving his Volkswagen Jetta the wrong direction on northbound Suncoast Parkway at around 12:40 am on Sept. 21st. The Jetta collided head on with a Honda Odyssey driven by a 47-year old woman also from Homosassa. The vehicles rotated and overturned. Both drivers were killed in the collision. The passengers in the Odyssey, a 20 year old man and 20 year old woman, both from Homosassa, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Lake Lindsey Rd. Fatality
On Sept. 22, 2024, at 12:10 pm, Hernando County Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of a vehicle crash involving fatality at the intersection of Daly Rd and Lake Lindsey Rd. According to FHP, a 22-year-old Brooksville man driving a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Daly Rd and a 70-year old man from Homosassa was driving his Harley Davidson west bound on Lake Lindsey Rd. FHP says that the Honda Accord entered the path of the motorcycle and was struck by it. Both drivers suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Hernando Beach Woman Killed in Shoal Line Crash
On Sunday evening at 11:00 pm, a 68 year old woman from Hernando Beach was driving a Cadillac Escalade south on Shoal Line. South of Lentini Lane, she lost control of the vehicle and traveled to the west shoulder. She overcorrected and then traveled across the highway ending up on the east shoulder where the vehicle hit two palm trees and overturned into the canal. She suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
