Brooksville, FL – The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is set to hold its annual Tunnel to Towers 5k Run in Brooksville on Saturday, November 9th, 2024. The event is part of the Tunnel to Towers National Run, Walk, and Climb Series, and it will pay tribute to our first responders, military, and the heroes of 9/11 who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice life and limb for the safety of our country every day, a press release from the foundation noted.
Event Details:
Date: Saturday, November 9, 2024
Time: Race starts at 8:30 AM
Location: Hernando Park Fort Dade Avenue, 205 E Fort Dade Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601
Participants are free to walk, run, or cheer along the path as they look to “honor the brave men and women who serve our communities and country,” the press release stated. Families, friends, and people of all ages can come out in November to show their support for an honorable cause.
As part of the festivities, the foundation will be bringing its “9/11 Never Forget” Mobile Exhibit back to Brooksville. “This powerful exhibit serves as a tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honors the sacrifices of our first responders and military personnel,” the release continued.
This high-tech, portable, patriotic display is an 83-foot tractor-trailer that “transforms into an educational experience” and is shuttled across the United States for such events. Its purpose is to teach communities around the nation about the events of that fateful day and its enduring impact.
All attendees will have the opportunity to walk through the exhibit, which houses steel beams from the Twin Towers, among other artifacts. Documentary videos and audio recordings of first responder radio transmissions from that tragic day will also be on hand. FDNY firefighters who served on that day 23 years ago will even lead interactive guided tours for interested eventgoers.
For those who wish to support this noble cause, there are many ways to get involved with Tunnel to Towers, the simplest of which would be to come out and support the foundation’s efforts at the run in November. It is as simple as “Run. Walk. Honor.” So, why not go out and have a day of fun and exercise with the family. You might just learn a thing or two in the process.
All proceeds will go toward the foundation and its programs including their building of mortgage-free smart homes for “catastrophically injured veterans and first responders” the release noted. To participate, people can register online at T2T.org and follow @T2TRun on social media to receive up to date information. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded and named in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow man on September 11, 2001. The organization has provided more than 1,000 mortgage free home to first responders, veterans, and Gold Star families and is “committed to ensuring that our heroes are never forgotten.”
