Hernando High School’s volleyball team beat Central High School 2-0 in the GC8 Volleyball Conference Tournament at Central Friday night. The Leopards went on to win the tournament on Saturday.
Robin Bailey, head coach of the Hernando High School volleyball team, said they tried some new techniques during the game, including having Carlie Grant, the team’s libero, play in the front row.
“She wanted a hit, so that was exciting for her to be able to do,” Bailey said.
Hernando High School also beat Central on Thursday after their normal season game last week was postponed because of Hurricane Helene. Hernando High won 3-0.
Setter Brooke Hart, outside hitter Kaiya Ward, and Carlie Grant had strong nights, said Bailey.
“It’s nice for her (Grant) to get a block and a hit,” she said.
However, Bailey said the Leopard’s volleyball team played a little too laid back on Friday night.
“It was a little too silly for me,” Bailey said. “They played real relaxed. We’ll have to tighten up them all.”
Since Hernando High beat Central, they advanced to play Weeki Wachee High School on Saturday, then Lecanto High School in the final. Hernando High defeated both teams 2-0, winning the championship.
