Hurricane Cleanup With Young Marines

By Tyler Fine, Young Marine

After Hurricane Helene, our unit the Lance Corporal Brian Rory Buesing Young Marines did hurricane clean up in Hudson Beach, Florida. It was sad to see how affected people were from that hurricane, because so many people lost everything they owned. We arrived in the morning and we worked all day, helping two families with their houses. We were doing lots of things like removing furniture, dishwashers, dryers and washers because they were all waterlogged with salt water and damaged. There were even boats that weren’t in the water because the water and winds had gotten so high the boats were washed into yards and streets. This is not the first hurricane cleanup we’ve done with our unit. Last year we worked with the Cajun Navy to help in Hernando Beach after a major hurricane as well. It makes you feel good to help people after something like this happens, because you know that they already have so much to do and worry about, and we can help make it a little easier for them. The Young Marines helps to provide opportunities for me to help my community and as leaders it is important that we always do whatever we can to help people in need. It’s not about the hard work, it’s about doing the right thing and helping people.
