One Note at a Time

Good Hernando County, a newly released music video, aims to help hurricane victims.

Kelly Dodson, a retired law enforcement officer, knew exactly what she wanted to do to help people affected by hurricanes. She got together with inspirational songwriter, Angela Bond, and the pair set out to help rebuild a community one note at a time.

“I first met Kelly through a local church music ministry,” said Angela. “She’s very involved with the community and has helped so many people in the county over the years.”

Kelly explained to Angela that after helping people after Hurricane Idalia and listening to their stories, she felt inspired to create something musical. So she approached Angela and together they developed the “Good Hernando County” music project with lots of help from other community members who are featured performing in the completed musical video.

“We’ve worked on the project for several months now and the finished video was released on YouTube on Oct. 15th, 2024,” said Angela. “The video is called “Good Hernando County” and is a tribute to the community efforts made by people everywhere who have been affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters.”

Angela wrote the song and her husband, Ken Baker, produced the music and also sang. They were joined by singers Ben Dzieken and Leslie Tomlinson. “The song itself was not hard to write,” said Angela, “At first, it was a little bit more laid back but we wanted it to be more upbeat so we introduced a more Caribbean sound to it.”

The video was co-produced by Kelly along with the support of many local residents of Spring Hill, Brooksville and the Weeki Wachee area who have personally lived through these hurricanes and contributed to the relief efforts in their neighborhoods,

Angela and Kelly wanted to create a project that would reflect the spirit of their community. Angela’s father, Charles Pflaum of Bald Daddy Productions, co-produced the video. A big musical production, the project has successfully brought together so many people from the county. Performers in the video also included Linda Farmer, Erin Daly, Marvin Baynham, Rocco and Julie Maglio, Fran Baird, Diane Greenwell, Marisol Marino, Mark Lucas, Amber Cone, Fire Station No, 6 and the Weeki Wachee River & Florida Waterways Forum.

“Hurricanes can bring unimaginable tragedy, but people have the power to overcome, and our video shows the strength and generosity of the human spirit,” said Kelly.

Good Hernando County is featured on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBqEo0Gdpwg. All proceeds from the video will be donated to a hurricane relief fund to help hurricane victims.
