A physical altercation at the Days Inn in Brooksville early Friday morning led to the arrests of two men on separate charges.
Deputies responded to a 911 call around 4:32 a.m. on November 15, 2024, reporting a suspicious incident at the hotel on Windmere Road. Upon arrival, they found Alfonso Castillo, 33, with a lacerated lip and shoulder pain, indicating he had been in a fight. Castillo initially declined to press charges and requested medical attention.
When deputies entered Castillo’s hotel room to retrieve his cell phone, they discovered bloodstains and a broken steak knife. Following a trail of blood, they located Israel Olivares, 41, sitting outside and covered in blood, with a chest wound that was still bleeding. Olivares claimed an unidentified man had robbed and stabbed him.
Surveillance footage revealed a different story. The video showed Castillo brandishing a knife before entering his hotel room, where a fight broke out with Olivares. The footage also captured the men engaging in a second altercation in the hallway.
Under questioning, Castillo admitted to retrieving the knife from his vehicle out of frustration over Olivares preventing him from sleeping. He claimed he did not intend to stab Olivares. Meanwhile, Olivares admitted to fabricating the robbery story to protect Castillo.
Both men were arrested and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. Castillo faces a charge of aggravated battery, while Olivares is charged with making a false report. Both are being held without bond due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers, as they are Mexican nationals working locally for an Alabama-based company.
