Help support local jobs, local tax bases, and a vibrant community culture.
More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, according to the US Small Business Administration. It also claims that small businesses create about two-thirds of annual new US jobs.
“As such, Hernando County’s small businesses deserve to be celebrated for their remarkable contributions to innovation, growth, and ingenuity in our county,” said Dawn Triconi, executive director for Brooksville Main Street.
This year, Brooksville Main Street, a local 501(c3) non-profit agency tasked with the economic revitalization of historic Downtown Brooksville, is proud to announce Small Business Saturday will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2024.
“It promises to be a fun and engaging way to support our local businesses,” Triconi said. “We want all kinds of small businesses to get involved, so know that whether you are a family business, local shop, online business, wholesaler, business service or small manufacturer, Small Business Saturday is supporting you.”
Small Business Saturday, celebrated the Saturday after Thanksgiving, was founded by American Express in 2010, as a national movement that encourages communities to shop small and support the unique businesses that make their neighborhoods special. It’s a way to promote the importance of supporting local economies and communities. When you shop small, you’re supporting local jobs, local tax bases, and a vibrant community culture.
This year, Brooksville Main Street is adding some excitement to the day by introducing the first-ever “WeLoveBVL Small Business Digital Scavenger Hunt.” It’s designed specifically to showcase all the amazing local shops, restaurants, and services in the BVL community. The contest kicks off on Nov. 25, and has until Dec. 7 to fill a Bingo card for a chance to win big.
“We’re thrilled to bring the community together in a fun and interactive way that supports our local entrepreneurs,” said Triconi. “This scavenger hunt is a unique twist on Small Business Saturday and a wonderful way to highlight the incredible businesses that make our community thrive.”
When you shop small on Saturday, Nov. 30, you’re not only finding unique and personalized gifts, but you’re also supporting your local economy. For every dollar spent at a small business, approximately 67 cents stay within the local community, creating jobs and strengthening the local economy. Regardless of where you live in this county, you can be certain that our community benefits greatly from the restaurants, retail stores, manufacturers, and service providers that create jobs and drive economic growth in Brooksville and Hernando County as a whole.
“Small businesses power the economy in our county, so this holiday season, shop local and support the job creators in your community,” said Triconi.
