My favorite Christmas song is “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” It is about how Jesus Christ was born and how he was born to save the earth from sin. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” is a song that is just like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen;” it is also a prayer song, and it is my second favorite Christmas song. The First Noel tells how the angels told the shepherds of Jesus Christ’s birth.
“God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” the Christmas song states how Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem to save us all from Satan’s power. His mother was a young virgin named Mary. It reminds me of how Jesus Christ saved us. William Sandys published “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” in 1833. The first printed version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” appeared in 1760 when it was referred to as “Tidings of Comfort and Joy.” It is said that the Latin church nightwatch would walk around singing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” means may God keep your spirits content. I like how the song is upbeat and happy and prays for everyone listening.
“Hark the Herald Angels Sing” is also a Christmas song that is just like it; it is about how the angels are rejoicing in the birth of Jesus Christ, how Jesus brought peace, and how he helped God and sinners reconcile. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” means celebrating Jesus Christ’s birth, and it tells the story of an event recorded in the Bible after Jesus Christ was born. When an angel first appeared in the sky on Christmas to announce the birth of Jesus Christ, numerous other angels soon joined him in singing praises to the Lord. I like this Christmas song because it tells a sweet story and prays for its listeners.
“The First Noel” means the Christmas season. The First Noel explains how the Bethlehem shepherds were the first to hear of Jesus’s birth from an angelic messenger; they were also the first to declare the news to the world. I like this song because it is soft and it says a prayer.
These are all my favorite songs because they pray over the people and are about Jesus’s birth.
Beatrice wrote this last Christmas when she was in the seventh grade.
