A resident at an adult living facility in the Hill ‘N Dale community was arrested Monday evening after discharging a firearm at a vehicle leaving the premises, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to Hillendale Cares, located at 27357 Frampton Avenue, around 4:50 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about the incident. Upon arrival, deputies took Mckenzi Finn, 20, into custody.
According to the facility manager, Finn became upset after the facility’s bus driver informed him he could not take him to the store because he was already scheduled to transport another resident. Staff members attempted to redirect Finn by asking him to clean his room while they sought alternative transportation options, the manager said.
Shortly afterward, as the bus driver was leaving the facility, Finn emerged from the garage area with a firearm and fired three shots in the direction of the bus. The driver stopped the vehicle on Cortez Boulevard to check for injuries or damage. Neither the driver nor the vehicle was harmed.
Following the shooting, Finn ran back into the facility. Deputies later executed a search warrant and discovered a firearm hidden in the ceiling of a common-area bathroom, along with ammunition found in Finn’s bedroom.
Finn, a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. He is being held at the Hernando County Detention Center on a $26,000 bond.
