Over the holiday break, the county played host to a pair of boys basketball tournaments. Most recently, Springstead held the 10th annual Glory Days Greg O’Connell Holiday Shootout.

On Friday night, the Eagles collected a trophy for winning the consolation bracket of their own 3-day event following a 64-47 win over Mitchell.

Senior Ryan Sayre led the way with 18 points, including a pair of made 3-pointers, and also had two steals. Jamin Pond added 16 points and five rebounds, while Zion McKenzie totaled 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sam Franco scored 10 points to go with six assists and also hit on two 3-pointers.

The win pushed Springstead over .500 at 7-6 and followed up a 46-32 victory over Leto on Thursday. The Eagles did not play Wednesday and automatically went into the consolation bracket in order to make the 7-team field work logistically.
