Back in 1901, relatively unknown artist O. Arnold did a still life oil painting of roses in a blue vase. That painting became the possession of Margaret Lykes Stringer (1845-1907) and hung in her home that is now the May-Stringer Museum.
The painting is in need of a good cleaning and an art restoration company recently quoted a fee of $750 to restore the painting. Unfortunately, that is not within the Museum’s current budget.
In the meantime, gift shop manager, Elizabeth Wilson has made and matted copies of the sweet floral arrangement. There are three sizes available. Mrs. Stringer loved roses and maintained a rose garden on the property and the painting is a reminder of her interest. The original painting may be seen in the parlor of the May-Stringer Museum.
