A Brooksville man was arrested on January 16, 2025, for reckless driving after a traffic stop revealed he was speeding at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone while carrying a toddler in his car without a proper child seat.
Deputy B. Croft of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was conducting traffic enforcement around 10:30 a.m. on Mariner Boulevard and Quintara Street when he noticed a green Chevrolet Camaro speeding. Using a radar device, Deputy Croft clocked the vehicle traveling at 80 mph in the posted 45 mph zone.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Matthew Aaron Cuesta. Cuesta told Deputy Croft he was on his way to court and later admitted to having an upcoming court date for a previous speeding violation.
During the stop, it was discovered that the vehicle was also occupied by a toddler who was not properly restrained in a child car seat, which is required by law for children of that age.
Cuesta was arrested and charged with reckless driving. He was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he was given a bond of $1,000.
