Hernando County Government, Hernando County Development Services, and Hernando County Emergency Management are advising residents that damage assessment teams will be conducting visits to homes that experienced damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Assessments have already begun and additional teams will be deployed beginning Monday, February 24, 2025. These teams, composed of contractors hired by the County, will continue performing substantial damage determinations to help assess the impact of the storms on local properties.

The damage assessment teams will be identifiable by official identification badges and will also carry a letter from Hernando County, verifying their role in the assessment process.

Residents who may have concerns or would like to verify the identity of any team members are encouraged to contact the Hernando County Development Services Department’s Floodplain phone number at 352-540-6714.

You may be asked for permission to allow them onto your property to document any damage. If you are uncomfortable with them entering your home, simply inform the inspectors, and they will respect your decision. These assessments are an essential part of the County’s ongoing recovery efforts, and the assistance of residents is greatly appreciated as we work to assess and respond to storm damage.
