A Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Friday morning after allegedly pointing a firearm at a woman during a domestic dispute, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a residence in Spring Hill at approximately 7:12 a.m. following a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival, they spoke with the female victim, who stated that the suspect, identified as Michael McNeeley, 23, had pointed a gun at her during an argument over domestic issues.
Following an investigation, McNeeley was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and domestic battery.
McNeeley, who was employed as a deputy with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Shortly after his arrest, he resigned from his position.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis addressed the incident, expressing his disappointment.
“I share in the concern of our citizens for the safety and well-being of domestic violence victims,” Nienhuis said. “I am deeply disappointed in the actions of former Deputy McNeeley.”
