A convicted sex offender who absconded from Hernando County has been sentenced to one year and nine months in the Florida Department of Corrections, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced Monday.

Tony Ambrose Chauncey, 46, was adjudicated guilty in Circuit Court on Feb. 27, 2025, for failing to comply with his sex offender registration requirements.

Authorities began searching for Chauncey after learning on Sept. 30, 2024, that he had moved from Hernando County to an unknown location in Jacksonville on Sept. 19. Investigators also discovered that Chauncey was no longer employed at the company listed on his sex offender registration paperwork.

During his re-registration on Aug. 22, 2024, Chauncey was given a list of obligations, including the requirement to report any change in employment or residence within 48 hours, either online or in person at HCSO. He initialed the document, acknowledging he understood the requirements, but failed to comply.

HCSO sought public assistance in locating Chauncey, who was later apprehended.

Authorities thanked the public for their help in the case.
