A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to three years in the Florida Department of Corrections for failing to comply with reporting requirements, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced Monday.
Virgle Lewis Eggleton Jr., 48, was adjudicated guilty in Circuit Court on Feb. 27, 2025, after being arrested on two counts of failure to comply with sex offender reporting requirements.
Eggleton was originally convicted in Hernando County in 2013 for lewd or lascivious conduct involving a victim under 16 years old. As a result, he was designated as a sex offender in Florida and required to comply with strict registration guidelines.
Authorities began investigating Eggleton after receiving information that he had an unreported social media account, a violation of sex offender registration rules. Detectives also discovered that Eggleton had failed to report his employment status after being terminated from his job in April 2024.
On July 18, 2024, Detective G. Marcacci and an inspector from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) made contact with Eggleton at his residence on Peaceful Avenue in Weeki Wachee. Eggleton admitted to owning the social media account and acknowledged his job loss but claimed he was unaware of the requirement to report these changes.
Eggleton was arrested for failing to report an internet identifier account and failing to report a change in employment. He was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center and held without bond before his sentencing.
