After a brief presentation by Department of Public Works Director Scott Herring, Commissioners at the March 25 meeting unanimously approved an ordinance that will drop the speed limit within the Hernando Beach Business District and permit the usage of golf carts during daylight hours on Shoal Line Boulevard between Bluefish Drive and Calienta Street.

The daylight restriction will be removed in the future, following additional approval by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

The speed limit on Shoal Line will be reduced to 30 miles per hour (MPH) from 40 MPH. The action is the result of a study conducted in June 2024, where 63 percent of Hernando Beach residents favored golf cart usage in the business district.

Golf carts will be permitted to travel with regular traffic on Shoal Line Boulevard and within the adjacent residential neighborhoods to the west of Shoal Line Boulevard.

Signage posting the new speed limit and golf cart symbols will be installed along Shoal Line. Yellow flashing beacons will be installed where golf carts will access Shoal Line.
