On April 14, 2025, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was called to 5065 Bromley Avenue, Spring Hill, which is near the intersection of Elgin and Landover. A barricaded subject was claiming to possibly be in possession of a gun, bomb, or planning to set the home on fire.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and had the fire department standing by. They tried to negotiate with the individual who has possible mental issues. Sheriff Al Nienhuis said that he believed they have visited the location around 130 times.

The individual was not cooperative in the negotiations. He then set the house on fire, exited the house and surrendered. Firefighters were able to quickly respond to the fire.

Sheriff Nienhuis “was happy to report that there were no injuries.” The suspect is in custody, but according to the sheriff, the house may be a total loss.
