A registered sexual offender was arrested earlier this month after authorities discovered he was accessing the internet and failed to report his online accounts, in violation of state requirements and parole sanctions, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Dustin Lyn Revels, 35, was arrested on April 3 and charged with two counts of failure to report an internet identifier account.
Revels was adjudicated guilty in 2010 in Cocke County, Tennessee, for aggravated sexual battery involving a victim under 12 years of age. The conviction requires Revels to register as a sexual offender in Florida and comply with specific reporting conditions, including internet usage restrictions.
On March 11, Detective Marcacci was notified by the Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole that Revels had accessed the internet and had unreported internet identifier accounts. As part of his parole sanctions, Revels is prohibited from accessing the internet on any electronic device.
Detectives obtained a search warrant and examined Revels’ phone, uncovering a social media account and an internet identifier account that had been recently used. When contacted by Detective Marcacci, Revels admitted to owning and actively using the accounts.
As a result, Revels was charged with two counts of failure to report an internet identifier account and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
