Jonathan M. Rentillo (24) of Brooksville was found guilty of murder in the third degree on April 7 in Hernando County District Court. Judge Stephen E. Toner Jr. handed down a 14-year prison sentence in the case, along with $2757.00 in fines and fees.
Rentillo was arrested on Sept. 6, 2022, following the shooting of a 28-year-old man outside of a 7-11 on South Broad Street in Brooksville. The pair had been arguing prior to the 1 a.m. shooting, with the victim dying a short time later. Rentillo was arrested hiding in a nearby mobile home park.
In addition to the murder charge, Rentillo was also found guilty of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, unlawful carry of a concealed firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place. Sentencing in those cases ranged from 8 months to 10 years in prison, and will run concurrently with Rentillo’s 14-year murder sentence.
