Now with the prep football season around the area finished, high school sports shifts to the winter scene as basketball begins to sit center stage. That’s where we come in and begin a weekly preview of games to watch for in both boys and girls teams in Hernando County. With solid programs like Nature Coast, Springstead, Hernando, Central and Weeki Wachee all ready to take the court, we’ve got you covered. Below are a few games we think are the matchups to watch for this week in Hernando County for high school basketball on the girls end.

Nature Coast (2-1) at  Inverness Citrus (0-3): A hot start for Nature Coast and a not so hot Inverness Citrus could equal the third win of the year for the Sharks. This Nature Coast team has already looked good through three games and another win for the Sharks makes things a whole lot better in Week 2 of the season. Watch out for this club.  Dec. 3, 7:30PM at Citrus High School: 600 W Highland Blvd, Inverness FL 34452

Springstead (2-2) at Weeki Wachee (1-1): Now the Hornets are in full rebuilding mode after making a deep run in the postseason last year, which landed them in the state semifinals. Weeki Wachee starts the rebuild with some intriguing matchups, including one against Springstead here this week. These two clubs should provide for a good game. Dec. 4 at 7:30 PM

Weeki Wachee (1-1) at Zephyrhills (2-1): Another interesting matchup for the Hornets is on tap this week against a good Zephyrhills squad that’s looking to take the next step in their own rebuild. The Bulldogs would like nothing more than to pull off an upset win. A win for Weeki Wachee would do wonders for the Hornets here.  Dec. 6 at 7:30 PM

Hernando (1-2) at Nature Coast (2-1): If Nature Coast wants to continue its ascension up the charts in Hernando County, a win against rival Hernando would only further validate their status. The Sharks are already off to a nice start, but they will need to continue stacking wins if they want to prove they’re the top team in the County.  Dec. 6 at 7:30 PM

Tampa Bay Christian (1-0) at Hernando Christian (2-0): Hernando Christian Academy has rolled into the 2019-2020 season with high expectations and rightfully so. The Lions were one of the better Hernando County teams from last year and return many key contributors. A matchup against Tampa Bay Christian is a solid matchup to end the week. Dec. 5 at 6PM

Inverness Citrus (0-3) at Central (0-2): Battle of the so far winless is what’s at stake here towards the end of the second week of the season. Central and Citrus are both winless heading into the week and want to pick up their respective first victory. If there’s anything else about this matchup, someone will have their first win under their belt. Dec. 6 at 7:30PM
