Week 4 of the regular season for prep girls basketball in the state of Florida begins this week and we here at the Hernando Sun want to give you the Hernando County reader all the insight you can get during the 2019-2020 campaign. We now take a look at the Hernando Sun Top 5 Prep Girls Basketball Poll heading into Week 4 of the regular season.

No. 1 Weeki Wachee (6-2): The Hornets have remained one of the top teams in Hernando County despite losing many of their top players from a year ago. Weeki Wachee did lose to Nature Coast at this point this season, but the Hornets have bounced back from the loss. Now the Hornets head into the winter break four games above the .500 mark. Impressive seeing that they graduated most of their starting lineup.

No. 2 Nature Coast (6-4): After getting off to an impressive 6-2 start to the season, Nature Coast has started to fall off as of late with back to back losses to Lecanto and Crystal River. The Sharks have defeated the poll’s No. 1 team Weeki Wachee earlier this season. The Sharks look to bounce back this week before the break.

No. 3 Hernando Christian (9-0): The Lions are looking at the real possibility of running the table heading into the year 2020. Hernando Christian could be undefeated all the way into district play. The distinction of being undefeated heading into 2020 is very, very real for the Lady Lions.

No. 4 Hernando (5-5): The Leopards are hot as of late, with Hernando winning four of their last five games and getting themselves back to the .500 mark. Hernando is a hot and cold team, as they can play with just about anybody but are looking to get over the hump. If the Leopards are hoping to get over .500, they’ll need to keep up the winning streak.

No. 5 Springstead (3-7): Two of Springstead’s three wins on the season have come against opponents outside of Hernando County. Those wins came against Dade City Pasco and Inverness Citrus. The only other win for the Eagles came in a victory versus Central. Springstead is still growing as the season moves forward as the Eagles inch themselves closer to the .500 mark.

No. 6 Central (0-7): The struggle this season for the Bears has squarely lied upon scoring points game to game. Central had games this season in which they scored only three and seven points. The Bears have an uphill battle in trying to win a game this campaign. If Central is going to pick-up a win, the Bears will need to find a way to manufacture scoring points.
