Annually in Hernando, The Uptown Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, hosts a holiday art exhibit; a festive celebration of seasonal artwork that brings light to the city. And this year, they wish to bring hope with the light.
The theme of this year’s holiday art exhibit will be Hope and Holidays. Uptown is hosting an art reception and show for the Hope and Holidays exhibit on November 13th, 2020, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., with consideration to social distancing mandates along with mask availability for guests.
“The Uptown Art Gallery is excited to announce the upcoming reception titled, “Hope and Holidays,” said Jody Tadlock, Art Gallery Coordinator. “We in the art community love to share a part of ourselves with others through our work. Artists enjoy bringing hope to our friends and neighbors in our community during these unusual times. We believe in supporting each other, local talent, local businesses and that together we will all rise to a better tomorrow, brighter, filled with art and color.”
On a yearly basis, said Tadlock, the Uptown holiday exhibits feature both festive-themed art as well as items that might indeed make good gifts.
“The show features a broad spectrum,” she said. “Photos, paintings, poetry, glass blowing, metal, jewelry, wood, sculptures, pins, and decorative boxes perfect for giftgiving.”
And the greatest gift of all this year, said Tadlock, is hope.
“This show expresses hope for a brighter tomorrow,” she said. “Now more than ever, we need to support the local art community. And more than ever, we need to bring hope to the community.”
A call for art has been issued for the Hope and Holidays exhibit, and drop off for the “Hope and Holidays” show is scheduled for November 7th, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. For further instructions and to RSVP to reserve their time for individual arrangements during weekdays, artists should email [email protected] or call 352-540-3811. Student work is welcome.
“As one big community,” said Tadlock. “We can pull together.”
Uniting the arts community, in service to the community as a whole, always has been the goal of the Uptown Art Gallery, which is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily except Holidays. The gallery most recently hosted the “Art in My Mind Exhibit”; an exhibit that, despite being staged in challenging times, featured 18 new artists.
The Uptown Art Gallery was founded in 1998 in cooperation with the Hernando Fine Arts Council and the City of Brooksville. City Hall, according to related information, “provides an ideal location for local and regional artists to display their work. Each exhibit reception is sponsored in part by the Brooksville Junior Service League and Hernando County Fine Arts Council. Receptions are free and open to the public.”
The gallery is a free resource for artists, students, teachers (indeed, teachers from all age levels are welcome to exhibit students’ work), and anyone in the community. Artists may display and sell their work free of charge, and the gallery maintains an artist database to connect interested parties directly with the artist.
