On October 27, 2020 Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) activated a search warrant on the property of 3422 Roundup Lane.  According to arrest reports, between the dates of September 14 – 18, 2020, detectives from the Vice and Narcotics section “conducted a controlled buy operation to purchase methamphetamine from a white male identified as the defendant, Gary Paul Mansfield.”

Gary Mansfield is the brother of William “Billy” Mansfield, who is currently serving four life sentences for the murders of four women between 1975 and 1980.  Billy was also found guilty of attempted sexual battery on a person over the age of 12.  Billy Mansfield buried women he murdered on the property reportedly because he liked having them nearby.

During his arrest, it has been reported that Gary Mansfield was “demanding immunity on the impending drug charges … and tipped off detectives with a clue that launched the new investigation, yelling that there are bodies all over the property.”

At least two other news agencies have reported human remains have been found on the property.

After news agencies reported this, HCSO stated that incorrect information had been reported by media outlets, but did not specify what the incorrect information was.

HCSO later stated in a press release that detectives “located items on a nearby property that were deemed to be suspicious.  These items are separate and apart from the narcotics investigation and have been sent for laboratory testing.”
