(Spring Hill, FL) At 3:05 a.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) received a 911 call for a commercial fire at the Palm Island Car Wash at 190 Mariner Blvd. A passerby called and reported smoke and flames from the eves of the building.  HCFES responded to the scene within 9 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire in the mechanical/storage room, office, and attic of the structure.

The fire was extinguished at 3:13 a.m. According to the on-scene incident commander, the fire originated in the office area and spread into the trussed attic space.  When the fire melted the water lines feeding the car wash, the fire was controlled from spreading until fire crews arrived.  The damage was limited to the office, mechanical room, and the attic space above the fire’s origin.

After a phone consultation with the State Fire Marshall’s Office, based on the description of the area of origin by the fire department it was determined an investigation was not required.  Because of the damage to the structure, it is unknown how long the Palm Island Car wash will be closed for repairs.

HCFES responded with 4 fire engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 2 ALS medic units, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs.  There was total of 21 fire personnel on scene.

HCFES would like to extend a thank you to the passerby who called in the fire.  The quick notification and response prevented the total loss of the structure.
