The Hernando Sun covers high school sports throughout the school year and with high school basketball season concluding not long ago, we have put together the Hernando Sun All-County teams for both the boys and girls. Each team that was covered from Central to Weeki Wachee will be featured within the all-county teams from the 2020-2021 campaign. The all-county teams are compiled based on regular-season statistics, team accomplishments, and regular season performances. Below is the 2020-2021 Hernando Sun All-County Boys basketball team.
Guard- Talin Bergantino, Central, SR: The last name of Bergantino is very well known with boys prep basketball throughout Hernando County and it became more known this past fall/winter. The senior guard finished the season averaging 14.4 points a game and also hauled in a team-high 6.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
Guard- Tre Joyner, Central, JR: The Bears were one of the top teams in the county and the junior guard played like one of the best players around. Central reached the playoffs and Joyner averaged 18.0 points a game and also added 5.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 5.3 steals. The junior will be one to watch in 2021-2022.
Forward- Unique Torain, Springstead, SR: Torain has been on the Eagles varsity since his sophomore season and his senior year was some of his best basketball. Playing through 16 games, Torain finished with a team-high 15.4 points and also added averages of 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.9 steals.
Forward- Kaden Long, Nature Coast, SR: The senior forward was one of the team’s top two scorers and had himself a solid season. In the Nature Coast Christmas Tournament, Long scored 15 points against Plant City in the championship final. The Sharks finished the season at 18-10.
Center: Anthony Thrower Jr., Nature Coast, SR: The senior center was a mainstay in the front court for Nature Coast all season long. Thrower Jr. was one of the team’s top two players and teamed up with Long to form one of the county’s top duos.
Utility- Jacob Gallop, Hernando Christian Academy, JR: Though the Lions didn’t have a great record on the court at 3-17, Gallop had himself a stellar season. The junior guard averaged a team-high 26.0 points, 16.7 rebounds and 3.5 blocks a game.
Stay tuned next week for the Hernando Sun all-county girls’ basketball team.
