All Roads Lead to Brooksville / Along Florida’s Adventure Coast: Bike Trails

The safe-way is always the best way, and will usually be first on one’s list as we explore a serious bicycle route.  Florida Adventure Coast offers many tips along with an Adventure Coast Trail map to help you plan out your next adventure on two wheels.  Unbelievably, the trail corridors extend through three counties: Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco.

Boasting 46 miles of scenic recreational opportunities, the Withlacoochee Trail is one of the longest paved rail-trails in Florida, and for the most part, an easily maneuvered ride of flat terrain throughout the many miles of beautiful trails. Never fear, you will be glad to know there are lots of handy access points-to take a break and to investigate a variety of interesting subjects to your liking, with an abundance of fun things to ponder and marvel at, such as that rare feeling of freedom in a pure uninterrupted environment. You can breathe, let your hair down, and let it fly in the wind as you zip through the great outdoors.

It will surprise you to discover how varied your journey will become as the trails take in the small towns, ranches, and six different well-suited localities nestled between Citrus Springs and Dade City. The wild birds and critters will astound you; the floral, and fauna will be breathtaking, not to mention the refreshing workout your body will experience!  The take-home memories will be the topic of many delightful conversations for a long time to come, and you will ultimately come back for more.

The Withlacoochee Trail, Suncoast Trail, and Good Neighbor Trail will be remarkably smooth sailing, with their conveniently paved, and extra-wide trails made easier to accommodate every kind of bicycle imaginable; and best of all, free of anything with a motor.

The 42 mile Suncoast Trail matches up with the Suncoast Parkway, and also runs through a variety of populated areas, farmland, and naturally uninhabited forests and bushy areas which spotlight the eco locale perfectly. These lovely intervals at rest stops and informative signs along the way tell us a lot about the local environment and what we need to know about it. And for safety reasons, bicycle riders will see GPS decals placed along the trail-ways if help is needed, and then rescue personnel can assure a rapid response once the proper channels have been contacted.

Joining the 46 miles of the Withlacoochee State Trail is Brooksville’s Good Neighbor Trail which runs ten miles through a scenic wonderland of quiet countryside to Russell Street Park Trailhead-only a hop, skip and a jump from a number of quaint cafés, and shops in downtown Brooksville’s historic hub.

“There’s an official Adventure Coast Bicycle Trail Map of Hernando County online, https://floridasadventurecoast.com/bike-trails-brochure-map where you can pinpoint the trailhead and parking area suited for you,” said, Tammy Heon, Florida Adventure Coast Manager of Tourism Development.

“I have a passion for bicycling trails, and right now we are in the process of discussing the bicycling trails of Hernando, County, for a video project on tap. It’s going to be fabulous because our trails are fabulous,” She said.

“All roads lead to Brooksville,” Tammy quipped.  “Better get your bike now, because they are getting harder and harder to find since the Pandemic.  More bikes have been sold since the Pandemic-than in 20 years. They are out of stock I am told. I think people are understandably looking for exercise, a way to get out of their house safely and get some good clean fresh air in their lungs. That’s why the bikes are so scarce,” she ended.
