The May-Stringer Museum often features the story of Dr. Sheldon Stringer, who purchased the house around 1900. He lived thereafter his home in Brooksville was destroyed by fire. He was there only a few short years, dying in 1903.
However, his eldest son, Frederick, continued to live there with his family. Fred was an attorney, State Representative, then State Senator, and then Circuit Court Judge. He was exposed to the operations of State government when he served as a Page in Tallahassee as a boy.
A portion of Fred’s library of both literature and law books is found in the parlor of the May-Stringer. Fred passed away at the age of 67 in 1942.
