While Floridians are drawing a breath of relief after avoiding a hard hit from Hurricane Ida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared September as Disaster Preparedness month. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Hurricane Center recognizes the month of September as the peak of the hurricane season, and predicts a total of between 15 and 21 named storms before this season ends on November 30.
“Florida Preparedness Month serves as a reminder for Floridians to review disaster plans and prepare for the remainder of hurricane season,” DeSantis said.
According to Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Director Kevin Guthrie, that plan should account for the location of their property.
“All Floridians should know if they live in an evacuation zone or low-lying, flood prone area,” Guthrie said.
