A Weeki Wachee man is free on bond after being arrested for stealing construction materials.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Deputy Public Information Officer (PIO) Michael Terry, said that the afternoon of Nov. 6, deputies responded to a call from a witness reporting suspicious activity at a property under construction on Eskimo Curlew Road in Weeki Wachee.
The witness told responding deputies that a pair of apparently juvenile males had removed two boxes from inside the structure, put them in a yellow ATV, and drove away.
Deputies later caught up with the pair, who were positively identified by the witness, at another home on Eskimo Curley Road. At the scene, another man identified as 37-year-old Adam Fisher exited the structure carrying two boxes.
Fisher told deputies that the teens knew he needed tiles for a structure that he was constructing in his yard.
Deputies confiscated the tiles and questioned the teens who said that Fisher had asked them to steal the materials.
The teens were released on grounds that the owner of the structure declined to press charges against them.
On Nov. 8, Fisher called the Sheriff’s Office to report that he had located other stolen items at his home and wanted to return them to their owners.
Acting on a warrant, detectives searched Fisher’s residence and discovered several other stolen items. Those items could not be connected to burglaries at other construction sites in the area, however.
The search also turned up more than 470 grams of marijuana.
Fisher was subsequently arrested and booked in the Hernando County Detention Center on two counts of burglary of a structure, two counts of grand theft, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was also charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The case remains pending.
