A man has been sentenced to serve more than 30 years in the Department of Corrections in connection with a fatal 2015 shooting at Lucky Fish Games in Spring Hill.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), late in the afternoon of Sept. 15, 2018, deputies and crews from the Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a report that someone had been shot at Lucky Fish Games, 10470 Northcliffe Blvd. in Spring Hill.

The subsequent investigation into the incident revealed that the gaming house’s manager Roger Vazquez, now 59, had been acting erratically and waving a gun inside the establishment. Another manager called the gaming house’s owner Jose Santana to report Vazquez’s behavior.

Santana subsequently called Vazquez’s nephew Raymond Correa who was 44-years-old at the time, to come to the business and calm Vazquez down.

In response to Correa, Vazquez unloaded the firearm and placed it on the counter.

He later produced a second firearm and used it to shoot Correa multiple times. Correa died at the scene.

When they arrived at the scene, Vazquez surrendered to deputies without incident.

On Feb. 25, with approval of the Correa family and the State Attorney’s Office Roger Vazquez entered a plea of guilty to murder in the second degree with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
He was sentenced to serve a total of 32 years in the Department of Corrections the first 25 years of which are to be served day-for-day.

HCSO Media Relations Manager Denise M. Moloney said that the HCSO Major Case Unit, Crime Analysis and Forensics personnel, and the State Attorney’s Office all collaborated on the case.
