Student School Board Representative Brooke Culp and vending machines
Student School Board Representative Brooke Culp, with Nature Coast Technical Highschool went before the school board on February 22nd to bring them school related updates. On the list of updates was the student council at Winding Waters K-8 wanting to purchase vending machines for their school and students, but they’re under the impression that there is a rule in place preventing that. A rule that prevents non-high school campuses from having such machines in place for student use. They are asking that the school board review this rule. There was no further discussion after the presentation.
Another school-related update was at Deltona Elementary school, students took a survey to inform administration about what kind of academic and behavioral awards they would like to have offered to keep them motivated. They also want to incorporate these awards so that students are aware that their achievements and hard work is being noticed and deserve recognition. When students were asked if there was one thing they could change about their schools, one student at Powell Middle School said, “One thing I would really like to see more of at school is events that reward students for all their hard work and effort in school. I feel it is often not acknowledged enough.” Brooke Culp states that efforts are being made to make this happen in the coming months.
