A leading Hernando help agency is preparing to offer a needed burst of sunshine for disadvantaged children preparing to go back to school. Beyond its mission of providing food and other necessities for people in need throughout Hernando County, People Helping People also hosts a weekly PHP Free Health Clinic for disadvantaged families. Clinic Administrator Maureen Soliman, RN, stated, “PHP serves the vulnerable in our community. Adding a free clinic allows uninsured low income, homeless, veterans, etc., first line access to health care who lack means or ability to see a health care provider.”
And starting on July 5, the PHP Free Health Clinic will offer free school physicals and vision screenings for uninsured children every Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm. The physicals will be conducted by appointment only, with each child receiving a backpack filled with goodies, compliments of PHP’s Weekend Blessings program.
The clinic’s school physical program is the latest initiative from this ongoing healthcare project. “We see eligible clients for chronic medical conditions as well as providing foot care and eye exams and referral for continued medical care at Premier Health Care,” said Soliman. The clinic, which has been open since 2019 and has served more than 400 clients, is open every Tuesday from 10 am-1 pm. “The eligibility requirements are low income and uninsured residents,” said Soliman.
Those interested in attending the PHP Free Health Clinic should call for an appointment at 352-686-4466 or stop by the HELP Center; walk-ins are accepted. Appointments can be made on the website, www.PHPhernando.org.
