Hernando County Government and Parks and Recreation unveiled the newly remodeled Rogers Park after a four-week hiatus on Friday, August 12th, 2022. Some of the upgrades include a 200 linear foot seawall and sea cap, removal of the existing playground and installation of a brand new ADA compliant aquatica themed playground with soft, artificial turf.
“This beautiful three-acre beach park is located right on the Weeki Wachee River,” said Chris Linsbeck, community Services Director. “Along with a boat ramp, canoe launch, and picnic areas, this park also features a playground, volleyball court, and barbeque grills.” Linsbeck also added, “The playground was ready for a much needed upgrade. The new playground gives a hometown feel with its manatees, alligators, and lily pad design bringing our very own Weeki Wachee River to life. The turf that was installed is sturdy and can withstand the sand so children can enjoy this playground for many years to come.”
Rogers Park is open 24 hours a day, and while there is no admittance fee, it costs $10 to park. Parking is limited, so it is recommended to arrive early, especially on the weekends. All Florida residents, not limited to the County, can purchase an annual pass for $53.25 that allows free admittance, boat access, and parking to all parks and trails in Hernando County. Passes are decals that are placed on your car and can be purchased in their office at 16161 Flight Path Drive in Brooksville, or on their website www.hernandocounty.us/departments-n-z/parks-and-recreation/passes. Individuals with physical disabilities can receive a pass at no charge.
Earlier this summer, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners approved Hernando County Parks and Recreation’s new Adopt-a-Park program which allows residents, families, individuals, and organizations to select from a list of approximately 20 parks in Hernando County for a two-year term. The only requirement is to hold a minimum of four activities a year in coordination with the parks department, such as a clean up, picnic table painting, etc. and in return, a sign will be placed in honor of the group adopting the park.
