The Hernando County government will purchase the building at 15470 Flight Path Drive for some of their offices. The building, informally known as “The Tracers Building,” is next door to the Brooksville – Tampa Bay Regional Airport (BKV) offices. The purchase price was $2,514,156.04.
The property has been owned by the county and leased by others under land lease agreements. The most recent owners of the building are Dennis and Pamela Wilfong, who first entered into an agreement in 1991. Land leases differ from traditional leases in that structures on the land can be purchased, but they are owned for the term of the lease. Dennis Wilfong passed away in August of 2021. BKV is the recipient of revenue generated from the land use agreements on the property. The current contract results in no change to the airport’s revenues, which will continue to receive a minimum annual payment of $12,684.24.
This purchase terminates a current lease agreement between the county and the Wilfongs. In 2020, the county leased the entire building and subleased approximately 2,750 square feet of space to Tracers Information Specialists, Inc. Rental revenue to the county will decrease by $37,128 per year.
“The Tracers Building”, is called such for its prominent logo of Tracers Information Specialists, which initially leased the building from the Wilfongs in 2011. Before that, the building housed the Wilfongs’ electrical surge suppression company, Surge Suppression Inc.
