The Nature Coast Technical High School (NCT) automotive department has been named among the top four finalists in the WIX Filters and O’Reilly Auto Parts 2022 School of the Year competition. The competition is a national contest to find and name the best technician training school in the country. The rankings were announced in Tomorrow’s Technician magazine earlier this month.
According to instructor Bary Beyerl, NCT’s automotive program emphasizes practical skills and hosts a variety of guest instructors who discuss their industries’ workforce current and future needs. “We always try to offer things in the classroom that aren’t always auto-related,” Beyerl said. “Our business partners are the backbone of this program.”
Hernando County School District Supervisor of College and Career Programs, Beth Lastra called the ranking an outstanding accomplishment.
“The Nature Coast Tech Automotive Program is an outstanding example of real-world learning presented by experienced and dedicated teachers,” Lastra said. “It’s quite an achievement for the program and we are so excited for the students and staff.” As a result of its ranking, NCT received a $500 award.
In all, 20 entrants took part in the 2022 competition. This year’s contest marks the second time that NCT has been named a finalist in the contest, Beyerl said.
