Brooksville City Council passes amendment and opinion referendum for ballot

BROOKSVILLE- On July 16, 2018 City council considered an ordinance for a charter amendment and a resolution for the November 6, 2018 election ballot.

Ordinance 891, places an amendment on the ballot recommended by the city’s Charter Review Committee which aligns procedures for citizen petitions of ordinance proposals with citizen petitions proposing charter amendments. 

Ballot Title: CITY CHARTER CLEANUP AMENDMENT
CLARIFYING PETITION FORM AND CONTENT REQUIREMENTS
FOR ORDINANCES PROPOSED BY PETITION

Ballot Summary: Shall the Brooksville City Charter be amended to clarify that the form and content requirements for citizen petitions proposing ordinances to the City Council shall be the same as those required for citizen petitions proposing charter amendments? (Yes or No)

Outcome:   Pass 5-0

The other ballot matter deals with questioning the voters on continuing the use of fluoride in the city water supply.

It will appear as follows on the ballot:

CITY OF BROOKSVILLE OPINION REFERENDUM-
CONTINUING TO ADD FLUORIDE TO THE CITY WATER SYSTEM

Should the City of Brooksville continue to add fluoride to the city’s water system? (Yes or No)

Outcome:  Pass 3-2 (Battista moved to approve, seconded by Bernardini)  Kemerer and Bernardini voted against.
