A Brooksville man called the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) after seeing media reports that the agency was investigating the death of a Brooksville pedestrian who was killed after being involved in a hit-and-run incident at Citrus Way and Glory Lane.

According to FHP Spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins, at 3:32 pm on Jan. 10, an unknown vehicle was traveling west on Citrus Way west of Glory Lane when it collided with a 47-year-old woman who was walking in or near the roadway’s travel lanes.

The woman died at the scene, and the vehicle fled.

Gaskins said that debris recovered by FHP Troopers at the scene indicated that the suspect vehicle probably was a 2002-2005 model Dodge Ram 1500.

According to Gaskins, after seeing media reports on the hit-and-run incident, a 66-year-old Brooksville man called the Highway Patrol. He told investigators that he was driving his 2002 Dodge Ram pick-up on Jan. 10 when he collided with what he believed to be a deer.
